“Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” Kardashian and childhood friend Simone Harouche said in a joint statement to PEOPLE

    NEED TO KNOW

    • Kim Kardashian was awarded 1 euro, equivalent to $1.15, by a Paris court following the October 2016 armed robbery in her Paris hotel room
    • The robbers stole $6 million in jewelry, most of which has never been recovered
    • Kardashian testified during the trial in May 2025 that she thought she was going to die that day

Kim Kardashian has been awarded 1 euro, equivalent to $1.15, by a Paris court over the 2016 armed heist in which she was robbed of $6 million worth of jewelry, most of which has never been recovered.

A lawyer involved in the case confirmed the amount to the Associated Press on Tuesday, Sept. 15, saying it was the sum requested by the SKIMS co-founder, 45, who testified earlier this year during the criminal trial.

Kardashian’s childhood friend Simone Harouche, who was downstairs at the No Address Hotel when the robbery took place in Kardashian’s room, was awarded the same amount, also at her request, the AP reported.

“We are grateful to the French justice system for recognizing us as victims of the terrible events that took place in Paris in 2016,” Kardashian and Harouche said in a joint statement shared with PEOPLE.

“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us,” the pair added. “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition. We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”

The court also awarded a former hotel receptionist who said he was traumatized by the incident $126,472, the AP reported, citing his lawyer. The hotel received $57,741.

On Oct. 3, 2016, Kardashian was alone in her room when five masked men, some dressed as police, broke in and held her at gunpoint. The men then bound and gagged her before putting her in a bathtub and stealing millions of dollars’ worth of jewelry from her in the middle of the night.

“They put plastic ties around her wrists, but she managed to squeeze her hands out of the wrist ties by wriggling her hands,” a source close to Kardashian told PEOPLE in 2016. After freeing her hands, Kardashian ran to Harouche’s room, where they contacted authorities.

The reality star later learned that among the items stolen were a $4 million ring from her then-husband, rapper Kanye West, two diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold-and-diamond Jacob necklace, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a gold Rolex, PEOPLE previously reported. Most of the jewelry has never been recovered, according to the New York Times.

By January 2017, French authorities had arrested 17 people in connection with the armed robbery. Ten suspects, including five accused of serving as accomplices, later stood trial after a series of delays. French media dubbed the group the “Grandpa robbers” because of their older ages and recorded criminal histories.

In May 2025, Kardashian testified during the trial that she “absolutely did think I was gonna die” during the ordeal, the BBC reported.

She wore all black and plenty of diamonds in court, later explaining on an episode of The Kardashians that she wanted to “taunt the f— out of these losers.”

Eight defendants were ultimately convicted of charges related to the robbery, while two were acquitted. None of them will return to prison after a judge counted their time served.

In a statement released after the trial ended, Kardashian told PEOPLE she was “deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice in this case.”

“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,” she said. “While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice, and promoting a fair legal system.”
