Robert Pattinson knows just how serious Matt Damon is about his The Odyssey role.
The Drama star, 40, revealed in a new video with MTV UK that he was shocked when he heard firsthand how his costar Damon, 55, prepared for his role as Odysseus when the pair were in neighboring trailers.
“There’s a thing which Matt did when I— we were shooting something. He was in the trailer next to me and he was making these noises in the trailer,” Pattinson recalled.
His costar, Tom Holland, 30, chimed in, “Oh, I heard that too.”

“And I was just like, ‘Jeez’ ‘cause he’s such a nice guy and… I thought he was on the phone and I’m like, ‘He’s a complete psycho,’ ” the Twilight actor said. “Like he was just like…”
“Screaming,” Holland finished for him.
“Screaming and screaming and screaming. And I’m like, ‘Either you’re having a really bad toilet experience or like…,’ ” he said before laughing along with his costars Holland and Anne Hathaway, 43.
As it turned out, Damon was just “blowing his voice out just to sound older,” as his character ages over the course of the movie.
Pattinson, who noted elsewhere in the interview that he was in “awe of” Damon’s scene where he was tied to a mast on a ship, added, “Seeing him on the mast, I’m like, ‘Jeez you’re really taking years off your life doing this.’ ”
While Damon plays the film’s hero on his journey to return to his home of Ithaca after 20 years away, Pattinson stars as the main antagonist, Antinous, who is ruthlessly pursuing Odysseus’ wife (Hathaway) in order to get the throne.

Pattinson joked with PEOPLE during the movie’s London premiere that embracing his villainous side was fun, as it wasn’t something the audience would be expecting.
“I like lowering people’s expectations; that’s always my favorite, that’s always my place to be. Undersell and overdeliver, that’s my motto,” he teased.
The Odyssey is in theaters July 17.
