‘We still haven’t played our best game’: Jason Holder fires warning after GT’s hat-trick of wins

NEW DELHI: Jason Holder has sent a strong message to the rest of the Indian Premier League teams after Gujarat Titans notched up their third straight win, insisting the team is still far from its peak despite building serious momentum in the playoff race.Gujarat Titans edged past league leaders Punjab Kings by four wickets in a tense chase, continuing their late surge in IPL 2026. But for Holder, the most dangerous aspect of this run is that the team hasn’t yet delivered a complete performance.

“So I think we still arguably haven’t played our best game yet but you know, the beauty about that is that we’re still getting the two points necessary each time we cross the line,” Holder said after the match, underlining the side’s growing confidence.Collective effort driving GT’s resurgenceHolder emphasised that Gujarat’s recent success has been built on teamwork rather than reliance on individual brilliance.“The beauty about how we’ve been playing is that, it’s not one individual performing every single day. There are different players stepping up on different days,” he said. That approach has allowed GT to grind out results under pressure, including their latest win where a modest target of 164 was chased down only on the penultimate ball.Despite the close finish, Holder made it clear that results matter more than margins at this stage of the tournament.“Look, I think the first priority is always to win the game… the first priority is to accumulate the two points every single time we play and build our momentum,” he added.Pace attack sets the toneWhile Holder has chipped in with seven wickets in four matches, he was quick to credit Gujarat’s pace spearheads Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj for laying the foundation.“Credit to both KG and Siraj. I think they’ve been outstanding this entire competition… they’ve made it difficult for the opposition,” Holder said.He also highlighted a rare tactical approach that has worked in GT’s favour.“Very rarely have I seen two bowlers bowling three overs back-to-back in a Powerplay. So it says a lot about their calibre and their quality,” he noted, adding that their spells help set the tone for the rest of the attack.Momentum building at the right timeWith three consecutive wins, Gujarat Titans have revived their campaign and are firmly back in contention for a playoff spot. Holder believes consistency, rather than perfection, will be key going forward.“We’re on a bit of a roll… so it’s just a matter for us just to stay consistent. I think the run rate and these kind of things will take care of itself,” he said.
