Chinnaswamy Stadium erupted into a sea of red this Friday as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a sensational five-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 34th match of IPL 2026. In a high-octane encounter on April 24, Bengaluru witnessed a masterclass in power-hitting and clinical finishing, solidifying RCB’s position as the number two team on the points table while leaving the Titans stunned.

    Opting to set a target, the Gujarat Titans got off to a flyer thanks to a batting clinic from Sai Sudharsan. The young left-hander played the innings of his life, reaching a century off just 57 deliveries. His knock was a perfect blend of elegance and aggression, featuring 11 fours and 5 towering sixes. Alongside skipper Shubman Gill, who contributed a steady 32 off 24 balls, Sudharsan anchored a massive 128-run opening stand that put the RCB bowlers on the back foot.

    Despite the onslaught, RCB’s veteran seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed his class, finishing with economical figures of 0/31 in 4 overs. However, the Titans found late momentum through Jason Holder, whose cameo of 23 off 10 balls (including two maximums) propelled Gujarat to a formidable 205/3 at the end of their 20 overs. Josh Hazlewood managed to claim the prized scalp of Sudharsan in the 16th over, but by then, the Titans had already laid the foundation for a mammoth total.

After the early loss of Jacob Bethell for 14, Virat Kohli and Padikkal dismantled the GT bowling attack with a breathtaking 115-run partnership.

    Padikkal was particularly destructive, racing to a 50 off just 20 balls and finishing with 55 runs from 27 deliveries, peppered with six sixes. Not to be outdone, Kohli played the anchor-turned-aggressor role to perfection. Kohli’s 81 off 44 balls was a clinic in placement and running between the wickets, featuring 8 fours and 4 sixes. His strike rate of 184.09 kept the required rate well under control, even as Rashid Khan attempted to claw the game back with two quick wickets.

    The match saw a brief flutter of nerves when Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma fell in quick succession, leaving RCB at 173/5. However, Krunal Pandya showed ice-cool nerves, smashing 23 off 12 balls, including three boundaries and a six, to finish the game in style. RCB reached 206/5 with 7 balls to spare, completing a clinical chase that sent the home crowd into a frenzy. This victory marks a significant milestone in RCB’s 2026 campaign, proving they have the batting depth to hunt down any total at the Chinnaswamy.
