NHL Rumors: Vincent Trocheck, Mason McTavish, and Top Buyout Candidates
Host: “What about the Rangers, considering what they wanted to do at the deadline and not everything got done? Are we going to see a (Alexis) Lafreniere move? Are we going to see a (Vincent) Trocheck move? What might be available for the Canadiens there?”
Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, I mean, you know, both guys’ names are part of it. Braden Schneider, another one, his name had popped up for a good chunk of the season. He’s an RFA. The Rangers, with the fifth overall pick, are another team that I think has had some discussions about possibly moving up.
They held on to (Vincent) Trocheck because they thought the marketplace may determine that the price they were looking for, which I don’t know definitively what the asking price was, but it sounded like first round pick, top prospect, additional asset, something along those lines, and the prices weren’t met.
NHL Rumors: New York Rangers Center Vincent Trocheck
I know Minnesota had offered a deal that included a first-round pick ahead of the deadline, but it clearly didn’t get done. The Rangers thought they can get more, and if they need to wait it out, they’ll wait it out. Well, this is what they’ve done. Waiting it out until the off-season, but now you have (Dylan) Larkin. Are we going to see other centers that may potentially be available as well?
I think New York took that stance because of the free agent market, anticipating it being a shallow one that teams are going to have to go fill some holes elsewhere. So, unless that price is met, they’re comfortable keeping him. But just like where they were the deadline, but they’ve held firm in that, and if they hold on to him again, they’re good with it.”
NHLRumors.com Note: One of the big names that could be on the move is Vincent Trocheck. The feeling was that Trocheck would move at the deadline, but he didn’t. According to those close to the situation, Trocheck is expected to be moved this summer. He just changed agents and wants to speed up the process. The problem is that New York Rangers GM Chris Drury is trying to hit a home run, given the returns he got for other players he traded away.
NHL Rumors: Vincent Trocheck and the Latest on Some Potential Suitors
The belief is that he wants a rostered player back as part of the deal that can help the team. Not just prospects and picks. Also, Trocheck didn’t want to be traded to the West at the deadline. But now, he is open to going West. So this opens up options for the Rangers. It is just not teams like Detroit, Minnesota, Carolina, and Montreal.
Enter the Los Angeles Kings. Peter Laviolette is the head coach there. Artemi Panarin is there. So a connection is being made. Do the Kings have enough to make that deal? But it is a team that is now open to the Rangers.
